1. Introduction
Welcome to Recalla ("the App"), developed and operated by umi.design ("we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our iOS application.
By using Recalla, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
2. Information We Do NOT Collect
Recalla is built with privacy as a core principle. We do not collect, store, or transmit:
- Your screenshots or any images from your photo library
- OCR text extracted from your screenshots
- AI summaries, tags, or classification results
- Search queries you enter in the app
- Any personally identifiable information about you
3. On-Device Processing
All AI features in Recalla โ including OCR text extraction, automatic classification, summarization, tagging, and semantic vector search โ are performed entirely on your iPhone using Apple's built-in frameworks:
- Vision framework โ for OCR text recognition
- NaturalLanguage framework โ for AI text analysis, summaries, and embeddings
No data is ever sent to our servers or any third-party service. Your screenshots and all derived data remain on your device at all times.
4. Photo Library Access
Recalla requests access to your iPhone's photo library solely to display and analyze your screenshots within the app. This access:
- Is used only to read screenshots you choose to scan
- Does not upload photos to any server
- Can be revoked at any time in iOS Settings โ Privacy โ Photos
5. Data Storage
Processed data (OCR text, summaries, tags, vector embeddings) is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This data:
- Is stored in your app's local container (and App Group container for Widget support)
- Is included in your iPhone backup (iCloud Backup or local iTunes/Finder backup)
- Is deleted when you uninstall the app
- Is never accessible by us or any third party
6. In-App Purchases
Recalla offers optional paid subscriptions and a one-time lifetime purchase through Apple's App Store. All payment processing is handled exclusively by Apple. We do not receive or store your payment card details. For information about Apple's data practices, please refer to Apple's Privacy Policy.
7. Analytics
We currently use no third-party analytics, crash reporting, or tracking SDKs in Recalla. We may only receive aggregated, anonymized download and usage statistics provided by Apple through App Store Connect, which does not identify individual users.
8. Children's Privacy
Recalla is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through our app, please contact us and we will take steps to remove such information.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of any material changes by updating the "Last updated" date and, if changes are significant, through an in-app notice. Continued use of Recalla after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
